The Best Biryani in Abu Dhabi
Biryani is the most argued-about dish in the city, and the argument splits along regional lines. Hyderabadi dum on Electra Street, Tamil Nadu style out in Shabiya, Karachi style on the Corniche, Malabar in the canteens. These eleven cover all of it, scored on the criteria below.

How we rate biryani
Every place is scored out of 100 on five things, so the order is repeatable rather than a matter of taste.
Google rating
Public rating, with 3.5 treated as the floor.
Review volume
A 4.8 from ninety people is weaker than a 4.7 from four thousand.
Biryani specialist
A biryani house outranks a restaurant with one on the menu.
Community word
Local forums and independent write-ups, which surface neighbourhood places.
Price
Biryani is everyday food. Value counts.
No restaurant pays for placement and none is a GulfOnline advertiser. Figures were read in August 2026 and will drift.
GulfOnline Recommends
Six picks for six different reasons, chosen on the criteria above and not for payment.
Aadaab Hyderabad
A 4.7 across 2,473 reviews for Hyderabadi dum biryani at prices well under the island average, and the only place on this page a visitor told us they found through a Reddit thread before flying in. Little oil, fresh cooking, reasonable bills.
Ritaj Restaurant
The name everyone gives you first, with 7,131 reviews behind it and Chicken 65 biryani that built the reputation. The 4.0 rating reflects slipping service and shrinking portions, so go for the biryani and expect nothing else.
Topi Vappa Biriyani
Seer-style biryani that regulars rate above the Hyderabadi houses, mild rather than fiery, with kushka and chicken chukka versions. 2,184 reviews from a part of the city that does not hand out ratings easily.
Student Biryani
The Karachi institution, and the only place here doing haleem and zarda alongside. Charcoal-finished tikka biryani, parking on arrival, and a room built for families rather than takeaway.
Grandma’s Grill & Biryani
The highest rating on this page at 4.8, and a menu that stretches beyond biryani to grills, Indo-Chinese and a proper vegetarian section. The one to pick when the table cannot agree.
Royal Biryani
Lamb biryani that comes out tender and juicy rather than dry, in a room noticeably more comfortable than the category norm. Carrot halwa to finish.
The 11 best biryani places in Abu Dhabi, ranked
Ordered by score. Ratings and review counts are what Google showed in August 2026.
1. Aadaab Hyderabad
Hyderabadi cooking with a light hand on the oil, and the biryani most regulars in this part of the city default to. There is a Mussafah branch too, rated 4.6 across 277 reviews, where the Bagara Khana and Talawa Gosht get the strongest notices. The Electra room is up a steep staircase and can feel cramped.
- Electra Road, plus a Mussafah M10 branch
- 10.30am to midnight
- Low prices for the quality
- Steep stairs, small seating area

2. Topi Vappa Biriyani
Tamil Nadu biryani, and the one people in MBZ send you to. Not spicy despite the Hyderabadi-adjacent flavour, with lollipop, chukka and mutton versions plus kushka for the vegetarians at the table. Meat quantity runs a little light against the competition.
- Nasim Al Barr Street, ME12
- 11am to 11pm daily
- Chicken chukka, lollipop, kushka, bread halwa
- Slightly less meat than rivals

3. Grandma’s Grill & Biryani
The best-rated place on this page and the most versatile. Weekend mutton biryani is the special worth timing a visit around, and the grills, Indo-Chinese and paneer dishes are strong enough that a mixed group will all eat well. The biryani rice runs dry, which is a style rather than a fault.
- Seeh Bilnisour Street, Al Danah
- 11am to midnight daily
- Solid vegetarian section
- Highest rating on this list

4. Biriyani Hut
Inside Madinat Shopping Centre, and the portions are the story. Kingfish biryani, non-veg thali, and beef mandi with biryani rice substituted in, all at prices that undercut the sit-down restaurants. Big enough to share.
- Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre
- 11am to midnight, from 10.30am at weekends
- Kingfish biryani, beef mandi
- Large portions, low prices

5. Student Biryani
The Karachi chain, and the only place on this list where the haleem is as good a reason to go as the biryani. Tikka biryani gets a charcoal finish, the zarda is proper, and there is parking on arrival which is rare in Al Bateen.
- Jabal Houq Street, Al Bateen
- 11am to 11.30pm, from 9am at weekends
- Tikka biryani, haleem, zarda
- Parking available on site

6. Royal Biryani
A calmer, more comfortable room than most of this category, and the lamb biryani is the reason to book it. Popular for birthdays and small gatherings, with staff who handle a group properly. Carrot halwa to finish.
- Al Murouj Street, Al Muntazah
- 9.30am to 11pm daily
- Handles group bookings well
- Lamb biryani, carrot halwa

7. Mannat Hyderabad
Hyderabadi in a tidier setting than the Electra Street competition, and the unlimited biryani offer draws a crowd. Two cautions from regulars: the first serving on the unlimited deal can be bone-heavy, and mild does not always mean mild, so be specific if children are eating.
- Khalidiyah Street, opposite Arab Bank
- 11.30am to 11.30pm daily
- Unlimited biryani offer runs here
- Confirm spice level when ordering

8. Manpasand Kitchen
More a Pakistani kitchen than a biryani house, which is why it sits here rather than higher, but the mutton pulao is excellent and the halwa puri breakfast is among the best in the city. Opens at six in the morning.
- Al Satr Street, Al Danah
- 6am to midnight daily
- Budget prices, generous portions
- Mutton pulao, halwa puri, karahi

9. Ritaj Restaurant
The most reviewed biryani in the emirate and the name everyone offers first. Chicken 65 and mutton biryani are still flavourful and cheap, and it runs until three in the morning. But the 4.0 is earned: regulars report shrinking portions, more bone than meat, and service that has gone downhill.
- Electra Street, beside Alam Supermarket
- 11am to 3am daily
- Cheapest on this list
- Quality and service are inconsistent

10. Royal Gulf Restaurant
Strictly a grill house, and it places here because the biryani is not the headline. But the bukhari rice with grilled chicken is excellent, prices are reasonable and the MBZ branch is roomier than the Khalifa City one.
- Mussafah, Mohamed Bin Zayed City ME10
- 8am to 1am daily
- Grills and bukhari rice rather than dum biryani
- Family friendly, large space

11. Antera Restaurant
A small Telugu kitchen where the Chicken 65 biryani is the order, alongside prawns dry and chilli chicken. Opens at half past five in the morning and prices are well under the area average. Ninety-two reviews is thin, so treat the rating with care.
- Al Danah, E6
- 5.30am to 11pm daily
- Budget, generous quantity
- Few reviews so far

The four biryanis you will meet
Hyderabadi dum. Rice and marinated meat sealed in a pot and cooked together, so the rice takes the flavour rather than being mixed in after. Aromatic, layered, usually the spiciest. Aadaab, Mannat and Ritaj.
Tamil Nadu style. Seeraga samba rice, shorter grain, milder and more savoury than fiery. Topi Vappa is the one.
Karachi style. Heavier on potato and yoghurt, tangier, often with a charcoal finish. Student Biryani.
Malabar. Kerala style with short-grain rice, fried onions, cashews and raisins, sweeter and gentler. Found in the canteens rather than the named restaurants.
One practical note that comes up constantly in reviews: ask about bone-to-meat ratio before ordering mutton, and be specific about spice level if children are eating. Neither is a given.
